Senior Beacon Announces Author’s Ebook - 8/4/2011

The Senior Beacon (Colorado) has announced the digital edition of movie critic Betty Jo Tucker’s Confessions of a Movie Addict on the first page of its August 2011 issue.

Tucker’s book, original published by Wheatmark in 2001, was released on Amazon’s Kindle store on August 2 and immediately shot up to #2 in the Movie Guides & Reviews category, beaten out only by Roger Ebert’s bestselling Your Movie Sucks.

Col. Puckett at the Infantry Officer Candidate Run - 8/4/2011

Col. Ralph Puckett, U.S. Army Retired, author of Words for Warriors: A Professional Soldier’s Notebook, gave speech at the Infantry Officer Candidate Run on August 4, 2011. Officer candidates who have selected Infantry as their branch do a “Spirit Run” one week before graduation. When they stopped at the Ranger Memorial, Col. Puckett gave a short speech that stressed the importance of their responsibilities as Infantry Lieutenants and advised them to volunteer for Ranger School to give themselves an edge on a battlefield. After the run, he joined them for breakfast and presented each a signed copy of his book Words for Warriors.

The day before, on August 3, Col. Puckett was the guest speaker at a Kiwanis Club event on the topic “Service Is the Rent We Pay for Our Space on Earth.” Col. Puckett was introduced by a member of the club who also praised his book, stressing that although the book was written from a military perspective, the material contained was appropriate and beneficial for a leader in any field.

Col. Ralph Puckett Continues Leadership Circuit - 7/19/2011

Colonel Ralph Puckett, U.S. Army Retired, author of Words for Warriors: A Professional Soldier’s Notebook, led a two-hour discussion with approximately 150 captains enrolled in the Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC) at Ft. Benning, GA. Words for Warriors is a cited reference for the class.

Col. Puckett presented a copy of the book to the recipient of the Colonel Ralph Puckett Leadership Award at the MCCC graduation 6/16/11. The Colonel Ralph Puckett Leadership Award contest is conducted annually to select the outstanding Junior Officer Leader in the 75th Ranger Regiment. The contest extends over three days and nights and consists of several different physical fitness tests, weapons firing, military skills, essay preparation, and appearance before a board of officers and senior noncommissioned officers. The officer who compiles the highest total score is the winner. The contestants do not know the winner until his name is announced at ceremony conducted at the Ranger Memorial. Prizes include an M-16 Rifle, mounted fighting knife, gift certificates from local merchants, and other items. The winner of the award is considered by the Regiment as the entry in the Army-wide MacArthur Award competition. The Officer Leadership Award contest is conducted at the same time as the competition for the Regiment’s Soldier and the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. The Regimental and Battalion level winners of both the contests receive a copy of Words for Warriors.

Col. Ralph Puckett on Leadership Circuit - 6/1/2011

imageColonel Ralph Puckett, U.S. Army Retired, author of Words for Warriors: A Professional Soldier’s Notebook, published an article on leadership called “Politics, Statesmanship and Economics 101,” in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, 3/06/11.

Using chapters from his book he also led a one-hour “Leaders Professional Development” discussion with the commanders and senior noncommissioned officers of the 192 Infantry Brigade at Ft. Benning, GA, on May 17. The purpose of the discussion was to improve the capabilities of the drill sergeants.

Colonel Puckett also used two chapters from his book in his graduation address to 88 new second lieutenants on May 26, 2011. The ceremony was attended by hundreds of family members, and was followed by a successful book signing.

He was also the principal speaker at a local church on Memorial Day. The purpose for his presentation and the entire program was to honor those who have given their lives in the defense of our country and include the veterans and those who are still serving.
