Col. Ralph Puckett Continues Leadership Circuit

7/19/2011

Colonel Ralph Puckett, U.S. Army Retired, author of Words for Warriors: A Professional Soldier’s Notebook, led a two-hour discussion with approximately 150 captains enrolled in the Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC) at Ft. Benning, GA. Words for Warriors is a cited reference for the class.

Col. Puckett presented a copy of the book to the recipient of the Colonel Ralph Puckett Leadership Award at the MCCC graduation 6/16/11. The Colonel Ralph Puckett Leadership Award contest is conducted annually to select the outstanding Junior Officer Leader in the 75th Ranger Regiment. The contest extends over three days and nights and consists of several different physical fitness tests, weapons firing, military skills, essay preparation, and appearance before a board of officers and senior noncommissioned officers. The officer who compiles the highest total score is the winner. The contestants do not know the winner until his name is announced at ceremony conducted at the Ranger Memorial. Prizes include an M-16 Rifle, mounted fighting knife, gift certificates from local merchants, and other items. The winner of the award is considered by the Regiment as the entry in the Army-wide MacArthur Award competition. The Officer Leadership Award contest is conducted at the same time as the competition for the Regiment’s Soldier and the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. The Regimental and Battalion level winners of both the contests receive a copy of Words for Warriors.
