When a reputable agent said she would look at my non-fiction book proposal if I had a significant platform and listed examples such as National TV spots, radio spots, big-name endorsers, and huge hook, I went into an emotional tailspin. I've just spent seven years writing and editing the book and proposal. How can I have a National TV spot? Where do I start? And with whose money??? I'm ready for an agent to say, "I've been looking for this work all my life." (Okay, I'm not that naive, but I am naive).
Fortunately, I have been building a network and estabishing relationships with some authors who DO have significant platforms. And for some time now, I've been contemplating my navel about building a website and starting a blob. But it wasn't until I did a Google search for "author platform" and found this article that I began to feel a glimmer of hope. So, thank you. Thank you for this rich resource.
