Two Amazing Resources: Paint.NET and GIMP

June 18, 2012 by Atilla Vekony, Publishing Information Manager

graphic designThis month we’re giving you two amazing resources instead of just one. It’s not because we’re feeling more generous compared to last month, it’s just that we can’t decide which of the two to recommend to you. So you’re getting both!

Design professionals use Adobe Photoshop to manipulate images and create stunning designs both for print and online use. The price tag for the latest version is $699.

If you want to sell your design services, then by all means you should invest in Photoshop. But you don’t need to go to that expense just to create great designs for your own marketing. If you’re not satisfied with the limited capabilities of programs that came with your PC, such as MS Paint, here are a couple of alternatives:

Paint.NET: probably the closest thing to Photoshop you can get in the $0 price range.

GIMP: does most of what Photoshop does, including opening native Photoshop (.psd) files.

The price tag for both Paint.NET and GIMP?

F-R-E-E!
