What you get when you publish your book with
Wheatmark
Wheatmark is an author-focused book publishing company. We want every aspect of your publishing experience to meet—and hopefully exceed—your expectations, so we offer unparalleled customer service before, during, and after you choose to publish with us. We understand that your goal is to get a book you can be proud of into the hands of readers—so each of our editorial, publishing, distribution, and marketing services are designed with that in mind.
Wheatmark’s Publishing Service includes personal author support; custom book layout; custom cover design; ISBN, LCCN, and other bibliographic registrations; electronic page and cover proofs; publication and distribution through Ingram Book Company, Bertrams, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and other major online bookstores; sample copies; substantial author discounts, industry-standard discounts to booksellers, full returnability, and royalties management; and a chance at entry into our Great Expectations program. All without you giving up the rights to your book.
The following table will provide you with a quick comparison of our publishing packages:
The Basic Publishing Service
The ideal book for the basic service is one that does not
require much special formatting (no tables, charts, images,
footnotes, or index). If your manuscript is straight–text fiction
or nonfiction that has already been professionally edited,
the basic publishing service is for you. Your book will be
published as a high–quality trade paperback with a full–color
laminated cover. You may also choose to publish the book
as a trade hardcover instead of a paperback. The following
benefits are included in the basic publishing service:
Outstanding Personal Author Support
A professional book editor works with you during the entire publication process. You may call, email, or visit your book editor at our offices in Tucson, Arizona.
Book Layout
We design a unique and appropriate layout for your book. Layout includes setting uniform chapter headings, headers, footers, and font styles, as well as adding copyright and title pages. The table of contents, front matter pages, and bibliographies are included. You’ll consult with your editor both on the overall layout and on the trim size.
Cover Design
We work with you to create a full-color cover that is unique to your book, based on artwork or photos that you may provide. Your book editor takes into account what you’re aiming for along with what will make your book the most marketable. Adding an author photo to the back cover is also included at no extra charge.
Cover Copy Tune-up
Your book editor also does a cover copy tune-up to make your back cover text the best marketing tool it can be.
Page and Cover Proofs
You receive electronic proofs of your book’s cover and interior via email for your approval before publication. Your book will not be published until we have received your explicit written approval.
Title Registrations
Your book will have the following registrations:
- ISBN (international standard book number)
- LCCN (Library of Congress control number)
- EAN barcode
- listing in Bowker's Books-in-Print
- listing with Ingram Book Company or Baker & Taylor
- listing with online bookstores
Distribution with Traditional Terms
One of the two major U.S. book wholesalers, Ingram Book Company or Baker & Taylor, will list your book, enabling virtually any bookstore or volume book buyer in the world to order it. In most cases your book will also be listed by Bertram Books, a leading wholesaler in Great Britain. We also make your book available for sale on the Wheatmark bookstore. We offer book buyers industry-standard discounts and accept returns at no charge to you.

Marketing Sales Sheets
We will create and send you marketing sales sheets to help you sell more books. The sales sheets will contain the necessary bibliographic and trade information about your book, including the cover picture and description. One version will target the public, your readers, while the other is specifically designed for booksellers.
Book Marketing Workbook
Wheatmark has developed a book marketing workbook to help you navigate a workable marketing plan for your book. A free downloadable version of the workbook is available to you. Do its recommended exercises to create a solid marketing foundation for your book.
Copyright and Author Rights
You retain all rights to your book and your name will be listed on the copyright page. Your publishing agreement with Wheatmark is nonexclusive, and you may cancel your agreement with us at any time.
Substantial Author Discounts
You may purchase additional books at 40% off the retail price. Steeper volume discounts are available for 100+ copies (50% off), 250+ copies (55% off), and 500+ copies (60% off), 1,000 copies (65% off), and for 1,500+ copies (75% off).
High Royalties
The royalties from book sales are paid to you quarterly. Wheatmark pays royalties based on publisher print receipts, which are the payments we receive for the sale of the book, less any returns. You will receive 40% of publisher print receipts when the book is sold through Wheatmark’s bookstore at the full retail price and 20% on all other sales. We pay for the printing of all copies.
Great Expectations Eligibility
Once your book sells 2,000 copies or more, it will be enrolled in the Great Expectations program, where we will invest our own money and expertise to support your marketing efforts.

You receive 5 sample copies of your book upon publication.
