How long have you been in existence?

Wheatmark, Inc. was founded in 1999.

Do you accept returns from booksellers? Will my book be returnable?

Yes. Booksellers are used to being able to return books that they cannot sell. We believe that without basic returnability and the standard bookseller discount it is unlikely that a book will succeed. Therefore, our books are fully returnable and are offered to resellers at the industry standard discount. We do not charge the author for returns.

What type of paper options do I have when publishing my book with you?

We use a high quality, acid-free grade of opaque paper stock. All books with trim sizes of 6 x 9 in. or smaller are printed on a 55# natural shade opaque. Larger books are printed on a 50# white paper.

What happens if later I decide to publish the book with another publisher?

You can cancel the Publishing Agreement at any time, without cause or explanation, with thirty days’ written notice. At that point, all rights to the work will revert to you, the author, and we would make any outstanding royalty payments.

However, if we learn of an actual or potential liability claim relating to the work, we reserve the right to suspend publication immediately.

While these are the legalities of ending the contractual relationship, we earnestly hope that we can provide such excellent service to our authors that they are never inclined to cancel their Publishing Agreements with us.

How long does it take you to publish a book?

The time required depends on the shape the manuscript is in when we receive it, the types of services you purchase, and on the length of time you take to review the proofs.

Who has the copyright to my book when I publish through Wheatmark?

You do. We will always print the copyright in your name on the copyright page. It is an added protection to have your copyright registered with the United States Copyright Office of the Library of Congress, and we can arrange that for you.

Can I have images inside my book?

Yes. You can have any type of black-and-white illustration inside your book, whether they are photographs, maps, charts, or line-art illustrations. We also publish color picture books where every page is printed in color.

Is your contract nonexclusive?

Yes, you retain the right to publish your book with another company at the same time, as well as you can cancel your publishing agreement with us at any time.
