Cover Design

You have heard, “A book is judged by its cover.”

We all wish our book was judged not just by its cover but also by its content! Well, here is how we make that happen:

When someone picks up your book off a table or comes across its thumbnail image in an online bookstore, the front cover of your book is the first impression your audience gets of your book.

At this point you (rather, your book’s cover) have four to eight seconds to make the first sale: to get your buyer to move on to the next step in the buying process: the back cover description.

If your book has a professionally designed cover and your prospect is interested in the topic, you can be confident in your book cover’s ability to usher your buyer into that next step where she will review the back cover to make a more informed decision. At that point your professional front cover has made its sale, now it’s your back cover’s turn to move your buyer further along the sales cycle.

If your book’s front cover is not professional and generally looks “home made,” no matter how well your marketing message is crafted on the back cover, or how professional the interior your book is, you could be losing a great number of sales because your buyer was stopped in her track (was put off by a bad cover) during the first sale that needed to take place: the front cover selling the back cover. She never looked, and so she was never sold. If your book contained the solution to her problem, she went home without her problem solved.

To make this critical first sale, invest in a professional book cover design.

Authors who publish with Wheatmark enjoy the benefit of professional cover designers who understand the psychology of the book cover sales process. Our designers take seriously your goals in publishing a professional book, and create covers that will move your book buyer past your front cover on to the back cover—and inside the book—so your book would be truly judged not just by its cover, but by its back cover and interior content as well.
