Beat the Market the Easy Way!
I needed this, my second book, available as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality. The best that publishers could offer was one to two years to publication. Then I discovered Wheatmark! The folks at Wheatmark provided excellent design and editorial services, prompt and friendly communications, kept every promise, and I had the first 3,000 copies in about three months. Very impressive.
Dr. Shirley Robinson Sprinkles, Texas, author of From Dunbar to Destiny: One Woman's Journey Through Desegregation and Beyond
When I first considered publishing my memoir, From Dunbar to Destiny: One Woman's Journey Through Desegregation and Beyond, I hadn't a clue where to begin. Finding Wheatmark on the Internet was the luckiest find of my life! Because I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, home base of the publishing company, I was immediately captivated by the information I found on the web page--it was a perfect place to start. My initial timid call was received by a warm and most helpful consultant. Clearly, he was a pro. There was no hard sell, just a competent, confident voice that gave me the "skinny" on what publishing my manuscript would be like should I select Wheatmark. Everything he told me has come to pass, and now I am the proud author of a beautiful, well-written book. Without the excellent editorial services that Wheatmark provided, I would not be able to say this. Great copy- and layout editing resulted in a work that receives high marks from readers all over the country.
I am thankful for the relationship that I've enjoyed with Wheatmark. What they have given me as a new author is much-needed confidence and professional guidance that has made my book the best that it could be. I look forward to future publications with less fear, knowing that Wheatmark will be there to help me.
Larry Jemison, Georgia, author of How to Make it in a World that Wasn't Made for You
Wheatmark is absolutely awesome! They guide you all the way through the publishing process, leaving the author feeling comfortable and empowered. On top of this, the editors really take their time in making your work the best book ever! You cannot go wrong with Wheatmark.
David M. Matthews, California, author of Every Man Sees You Naked: An Insider's Guide to How Men Think
I did extensive research when I was trying to decide who I wanted to publish my book. There are a lot of companies out there and it was a very tough decision. What finally clinched it for me was a conversation I had with [my publishing consultant], who as far as I knew was the "voice of Wheatmark." His unrushed manner and comprehensive knowledge of the publishing industry made me feel like, with Wheatmark, my book would be in good hands. And I have never regretted that decision. Throughout the entire publishing process, I felt like I was dealing with consummate professionals who truly cared about my project, despite the fact that it was only one of many that they were currently working on. My book editor was always available for questions and feedback and was quick to respond to my needs and requests. And the final product, my book, looks great ... thanks in no small part to the dedication and hard work of the entire Wheatmark staff.
I truly believe that this is just the beginning of a long and mutually-beneficial relationship. Thanks for everything, Wheatmark. I couldn’t have done it without you.
James D. Best, Arizona, author of The Shopkeeper
When I decided to self-publish my book, I spent over a month researching POD publishers. Since I had already published a book with Wiley, I was familiar with book publishing and wanted a professional partner.
After my extensive research, I chose Wheatmark for the following reasons:
- Restrained sales hype by the staff and on the Wheatmark website
- Honest, straightforward advice on the opportunities, pitfalls, and tactics for marketing my book
- Industry standard discounts and return policy
- Competitive pricing
- Great Expectations
What I discovered after choosing Wheatmark:
- Highly professional editing, proofreading, and design
- A surprising flexibility to meet the needs of an author
- An arrangement with Amazon that allows Amazon to offer steep discounts
- Performance that exceeds expectations and meets the service descriptions
I’m about to publish my second book with Wheatmark and I’m convinced that they’re the best in the industry. Thanks a million.
Charlie Brown, Illinois, author of A Wee Pot o' Irish Gold
[Wheatmark] worked with me and gave me good suggestions and aided me.... I am looking forward to working with them again on my second book.
Stan Crader, Missouri, author of The Bridge
Dealing with Wheatmark has been a pure pleasure. Before signing with Wheatmark I had a contract with a traditional publisher but for a variety of reasons they never published my book. During that contract period I researched other options and spoke to several ... publishers. I was most
impressed with the people I spoke to at Wheatmark and consequently chose
them. The Wheatmark experience has exceeded my expectations in every way. The book was published quicker than their published schedule and the quality is second to none. I've found everyone at Wheatmark a pleasure [to work with]. Book sales are brisk, I'm working on the sequel and plan to use Wheatmark for the second book.
Thomas P. Collins, Arizona, author of Stage-Struck Settlers in the Sun-Kissed Land
My experience with Wheatmark during the editing and publication of my book ... was in every way delightful. The friendly staff responded promptly to my questions and concerns, and they were helpful in resolving the occasional differences of opinion between the editors and me. I was thrilled with the eye-catching cover design and the elegant layout of the book. The numerous photos were reproduced with vividness and clarity. The promotional postcards and business cards, as well as the website, have been particularly useful in marketing the book. I recommend this publisher without reservation to novice authors. I take pride in the quality of my work, and so does Wheatmark.
Paul Von Ward, Georgia, author of The Soul's Genome
I want you to know how delighted I am with Wheatmark’s handling of the whole activity from last fall to this point of the book being on-line and with the first cases en route to me. Your professional staff exceeded my expectations all the way. [My publishing consultant] set up a schedule in negotiations with me to meet my needs and kept an eye on each step in it and we finished two weeks ahead of time. I am now
confident we will have the books on site for the first pubic event, which was our target. In addition, the first steps of the distribution and marketing are
underway ahead of schedule. I’m sure we’ll be able to work together to make this book a success for both of us. That would not have been possible without the efforts and commitments of
[my editor], who was the consummate professional, and with a customer relations savy that made it a delight to work with her. She, in my years of public experience, went far beyond the call of duty to make everything work.
Paula Sline, Massachusetts, author of Unveiled
I have been impressed by everyone I have worked with at Wheatmark. I found them responsive and invested in producing a quality book. The editors were knowledgeable suggesting edits that clearly strengthened the story. They are professionals who always treated my manuscript with respect. I am pleased with the quality of the cover, print and overall appearance of the book and would choose Wheatmark again without hesitation.
Karen Wasoba, Missouri, author of Lord, Shut Me Up! Anger Management for Christian Women
I can't tell you how much it meant to me the first time I saw my manuscript in its final form. Seeing my title page with my name listed and then actually holding the finished book in my hands was overwhelming. It brought back awesome recollections of the positive and helpful advice from the editors at Wheatmark, the endless emails that never once sounded impatient or condescending. The company could very well have sighed great sighs of irritation at having (again and again and...) to guide me through the process of writing my first book. Respect and humor (not necessarily in that order) mean a great deal to me, and Wheatmark tirelessly supplied both. I enthusiastically recommend them and am warning them well in advance that I'm percolating yet another brilliant "novel" idea.
Sandra Clayton, Utah, author of Dolphins Under My Bed
My only regret about Wheatmark is that I didn’t find them sooner, since my research took up time I could have spent writing. There was the publisher who sent me a fat folder that was big on self-promotion but small on essential information, and who then pursued me relentlessly. A publisher who interested me took a week to return my phone call and sounded so lackluster I crossed him off my list. People in chat rooms complained about one of the more expensive firms who produced poor quality books, and about another’s hidden costs. A local self-publisher said that stuffing envelopes was a real pain. Wheatmark’s website gave me everything I needed to know upfront about all costs, a time-table and their contract. Someone answered the phone and my questions. Emails were answered by return, but no-one ever hassled me. Their prices were very reasonable, the deadline was met and the book that emerged was of a very high quality. And, essential for me, they receive the orders and send out the books. My title also appeared on the lists of those online booksellers Wheatmark said it would, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as major distributors in the US and UK, which gave an immediate boost to my sales promotion. In fact, everything they promised they did, and everything they did was most professional. I’ve just arranged for them to publish my second book.
C. A. Campos, New York, author of five books: Veinte años no es nada, Mooning over Water, Arrangement in Spanish & English, La tierra que me conoce, and Sketches
Wheatmark will not let you down. They accomodate your needs and wants in terms of cover design and interior layout. And your input is always a welcome in the publishing process. The many books I've published through them is all the proof you need to know how I feel about them.
Philip Solem, Minnesota, author of Such a Road: Autobiography of a Marriage
I carefully researched and compared a number of print-on-demand publishers before choosing Wheatmark. It was the right choice! The price was right, their information was clear and accurate, the stated production schedule was met, and my book editor was superb. The presentation of my book is beautiful--from cover design to interior layout and text design. I would be proud to place it alongside any book on any shelf in any bookstore in the country. I would recommend Wheatmark without hesitation.
Bill Charland, New Mexico, author of Soundings
I have been very pleased with the services provided by Wheatmark and the quality of the book we produced together. Everyone on the staff is knowledgeable and professionally responsible, interested in meeting the client's needs. I am the author of six books with traditional publishers, and have found the services of Wheatmark to be the equal of any of them. I am now publishing a second book with Wheatmark.
Col. Ralph Puckett, Georgia, author of Words for Warriors: A Professional Soldier's Notebook
I am very pleased with the way the book looks and appreciate the help that your staff gave me. I look forward to a continuing relationship.
Joel Krupa, Michigan, author of Hold On
Wheatmark as a whole has sculpted my book into something absolutely wonderful. They have successfully taken my manuscript and went above and beyond my hopes for this project, that spiraled me to the limelight.... [T]hey have managed to turn my life into something even more precious than I could ever have hoped. The feeling of a local celebrity is a feeling of euphoria that I have rarely been afforded. I have never been happier. Thank you.
Matt Arnold, Washington, author of An Open Universe and Crossroads
I have been pretty satisfied with the process. I did consider a few other publishers and I can say that the reason I went with yours is that any initial questions I had regarding cost, submission, format, etc., were immediately answered via emails and that was not the case with the others. And once I was assigned an editor, she would get back with me within 24 hours any time I emailed. Also, your website was very well organized compared to some others.
JD Lock, New Jersey, author of Rangers In Combat and Chain of Destiny
For any author looking to get a professional head start, Wheatmark is the place to begin. Having been published by both "traditional" (Simon & Schuster) and other "print on demand" publishers, this author has found Wheatmark to be not only relatively inexpensive but also exceptionally responsive to my writing needs. Given that I have recommended Wheatmark's services to friends and associates in the past, I can do no less for anyone else who is looking for either the "basics" or "full-service" publishing. I, for one, am convinced that one's writing needs cannot be met elsewhere for quality, time, and cost.
Paul Kelso, The Philippines, author of Kelso's Shrug Book
Published five years ago, my book remains one of the better sellers in the field of weight training, and my theories have gained wide acceptance among lifters and coaches. The Great Expectations program kick-started another round of increased sales.
Goldie Taylor, Georgia, author of In My Father's House
Without question, Wheatmark was essential to helping me build a career as a fiction writer. Your team made it easy and cost effective for me to bring my first novel, In My Father's House, to life. Today, I am represented by Larry Kirshbaum, one of the most powerful agents in the industry. I sold my second novel, The January Girl, to BookSpan, the largest bookclub operator in the world and have signed a deal with Hachette (formerly Warner) Books.
Kent Kloepping, Arizona, author of The Upside of the Downside: Journeys with a Companion Called Polio
In January 2006, I attended the annual conference of the Society of Southwestern Authors in Tucson, Arizona. I was completing a memoir and seeking a publisher. After reviewing my manuscript, a former editor of a large New York publishing house recommended that I approach Wheatmark in Tucson to publish the work. I did select them and they published the book in October 2006.
During the process they made a number of very helpful organizational suggestions, did a great job in cover design, were readily available to contact, always responsive, and competitive cost-wise. In retrospect I should have utilized their manuscript editorial services--next time I will. If you’re thinking of publishing I’d recommend you contact Wheatmark, you’ll like what they have to offer.
Francine Pappadis Friedman, Illinois, author of MatchDotBomb: A Midlife Journey through Internet Dating
A colleague of mine recommended Wheatmark to me when I was searching for a publisher. Although I’d had short stories published before, this was my first book. It won’t be my last . . . and it won’t be my last with Wheatmark. Because it took me four years to write my book, I didn’t want to add more years to the publishing process. I wanted it to be swift yet thorough. I wanted a critical, objective eye. Wheatmark delivered.
The staff at Wheatmark is bright, knowledgeable, and never too busy to return calls, answer emails, or take the time to answer even the most rudimentary questions. They are insightful and sensitive to the many emotions that authors experience, figuratively holding my hand through those tense, about-to-be-published moments. They have very talented editors (high praise coming from a former English and journalism teacher). They are savvy business people who know their industry. And they have a sense of humor, which is an all-important ingredient to me. What more could I want?
Roz Monette, Colorado, author of Invisible Shadow
I used POD publishing before. Two things stood in my way with bookstores: returnable status and industry standard discounts. Wheatmark offers both of these features. From a bookstore perspective, my novel is no different than any other traditionally published book on the shelf. Since publishing with Wheatmark, I've held book signings at Barnes & Noble, spoke at writers' conferences, and I've participated in author events alongside mainstream authors. If you're fed up with rejection letters and you want to see your work in print, Wheatmark is the answer and your path to success!
J. Michael Krivyanski, Pennsylvania, author of Wives, Mothers and Other Wonder Women
I have used POD publishing prior to Wheatmark. My previous POD publisher was not good to me. The POD book publishing experience with Wheatmark is what I had always hoped to experience. Wheatmark is the type of POD publisher I think every author should consider. When I sent an email to someone at Wheatmark I got a reply in a reasonable time. When I made a phone call it was either answered or returned in a reasonable amount of time. All of my questions were answered by honest people who understood exactly what I was asking. From offering a great program that enables your book to be put into stores to sending out free review copies Wheatmark is the place to do your POD publishing. I highly recommend it.
Kim Samuels, California, author of He's Just Not: Dating Deal Breakers
I initially picked Wheatmark because one of the things they offered was editing services. This, I believed was a major plus. Self-publishers really need to recognize and understand how important this is. Secondly, they had a "Great Expectations" program. This means that Wheatmark will put marketing money behind you once you sell 2,000 copies. If you believe, like I do that this will happen to your book, you can't ask for more than that! They were always ready to offer professional advice along the way and make sure I had a marketable product that they, as well as I would be proud of. I will definitely be publishing my next book with them. I LOVE my book!
Mary O'Connor, Connecticut, author of Dreams of a Wingless Child
Having had a career in public relations and marketing, I found it most important to be able to work with someone who not only appreciated the importance of good cover design and the final production of a quality product. Wheatmark staff accomplished these goals in a timely and professional manner. Without exception, everyone took pride in their work, which showed in the final results.
Elton Cowart, Alabama, author of I Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore
Having never published a book before, I was more than a little intimidated by the process. Wheatmark's professionalism made it easy. Their staff was readily available to help and explain everything step by step. The quality and appearance of the finished product was excellent. When my next effort is completed there is no question where I will turn for publishing.
Victor Downs, Wisconsin, author of Evidence for the Mystery
Wheatmark did a beautiful job on [my book's] cover ... They are superb, unusually high quality professionals in every sense of the word.... [They] are very personable, helpful, and easy to talk to.
June Cornelison, Arizona, author of My Soul from Death
I'm happy I chose Wheatmark as my publisher. From the beginning the entire staff was positive and professional to work with and provided a book I am proud of.
Ray Cheng, Virginia, author of Practical Chess Exercises: 600 Lessons from Tactics to Strategy
It has been an absolute joy to work with the Wheatmark team. They have been professional, thoughtful, creative, and responsive through the entire process of getting my book into print, and into the hands of my readers.
Linda Thompson and Nancy Teas-Crain, California, authors of Math for Puzzled Parents
We spent some time investigating different ways to get our book published and decided to go with Wheatmark given the amount of service provided for the cost. We were completely satisfied with the whole process, from our first discussions to the final product. The staff was very helpful and readily available as we prepared and submitted our files and planned the cover. We felt that they were committed to helping us produce a product that we could be proud of. The final product looks great. Having the book listed on Amazon gives the book credibility and having it available through Ingram has made it possible to get orders from bookstores that order only from a major distributor such as Ingram. Also, it is wonderful that they will handle direct sales so that we do not have to buy and sell a huge number of books ourselves.
All in all, we highly recommend Wheatmark to anyone who has a book to publish!
Sandra Calvert Mueller, Ohio, author of Memories of Crystal Beach Park
There are just not enough words to describe the elation, delight, and extreme gratitude to you and anyone else who had a hand in this wonderful final product that arrived today. Thank you so much for all your creative touches. The cover and interior look fantastic. I am so grateful for all your help with making this book become a reality.
Zoe Grider, Virginia, author of Irish Eyes
I had in the past published with another self-publishing company, although they had a lot of paperwork involved I was not pleased with the quality of book that was published in the end. I got discouraged and after much prompting from family and friends, I re-edited my book and went out looking for a new publisher. That is when I came across Wheatmark! Excellent professionalism from the beginning, there was not a lot of paperwork involved and to my surprise they were extremely professional, punctual (even
during the holidays), and hooked me up with a professional website design company. I recommend Wheatmark to everyone thinking about self-publishing and self-promotion!! Thanks to everyone at Wheatmark who made my experience a fulfilling one!
Chris Crowther, England, author of Bladestrike
I can’t praise Wheatmark too highly for all the service they gave me in getting my first novel, Bladestrike, into print. Although I live and work in England, the personal touch displayed by both admin and editorial staff gave the feeling of almost sitting beside them and the whole process of bringing the work to publication, a source of pleasure in which I was consulted at every stage. Response to any queries was immediate with a sense of purpose, enthusiasm and humour running through all communication. The finished book was excellent and the after-service relating to reprints, just as speedy and efficient as all their other areas of expertise. I recommend Wheatmark to any author seeking a friendly yet highly professional path to publication.
Kendall Sholders, Alabama, author of A Purpose-Filled God
When I began to look for a publisher, I was confused as to who I should use. I then came across Wheatmark and decided to give them a try. I was impressed by their presentation and hoped the quality of their work would follow. I was not disappointed. There's not a negative thing that I can say about them. Their attitudes were great from the beginning. My book editor worked in a timely manner to stay on schedule and there were no hidden "gotchas" in the process. I was impressed by that as well!! The final product was more than I expected. Everyone is now impressed with my book also. I will continue to use Wheatmark on my next project because of the unusually positive experience that I encountered.
Erica Stux, California, author of Who? Me? Paranoid?
I was very satisfied with Wheatmark and happy with the way my book turned out. I investigated many publishers before deciding on Wheatmark. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to self-publish.
Trudy Evans, Florida, author of The Pied Piper Principle: Lead, and They Will Follow
Thank you for your prompt response--as with every transaction I have had with Wheatmark, the people are great to deal with.
Betty Joyce Colgate, Florida, author of Homily Grits and all the Fixin’s
Writing for me is more of an avocation than a profession; consequently I have few connections among authors or members of the publishing industry. An earlier attempt to find help with publication of some of my work proved more daunting than I felt warranted, so I gave up in that pursuit. I have discovered since then that the availability of online services of competent professional publishers has completely transformed the process. I selected Wheatmark following the recommendation of a friend who told me of her good experience working with that company. I was impressed with the quality of the product they produced and encouraged by the praise they were given by my friend. I am very pleased to report that I had a similar experience. At first I was apprehensive that an online publisher might just take the fee and publish anything without an effort to evaluate its quality or make strong recommendations about how it could or should be strengthened. With Wheatmark this suspicion proved to be unnecessary. Their editorial support was thorough and thoughtful. Together we created a finished work that was improved in many ways over the one originally submitted. Everything was handled expeditiously.... I can and do recommend Wheatmark to all authors who wish to see their work skillfully prepared and beautifully published.
Steven Canale, California, author of Social Injustice
My experience with Wheatmark has been nothing but professional and pleasant. The cost was minimal in comparison to the benefits derived. ... When I finally got around to seeking a literary agent, the agency responded that the book needed no further editing. This cut a great deal of time away from the effort to get it ready for marketing. Network marketing a book is a lot more difficult than it sounds, but in retrospect I am thankful for the lessons I learned. At this point in the experience, I've got to believe that I am light years ahead of where I'd be had I not sought Wheatmark's help, knowledge, and expertise!
Hermon Price, M.D., Arizona, author of There's Something Funny About That
When I sought advice from some author acquaintances who had used other
publishers, I received only "draconian discouragement" and negative comments about their publishing experiences. However, when I located Wheatmark, on my own, the results have been a total surprise and an unending pleasure. Their courteous assistance and professional recommendations have been an absolute joy. Their charges are very reasonable and every step in the publishing process has been ahead of schedule. I could not be more pleased with the treatment and service from this outstanding organization.
Melanie Gaines, Arizona, author of Canyon Lake
My decision to work with Wheatmark on my first novel, Canyon Lake, has been most satisfying. Their level of communication, shared decision-making process and working with me on the cover design produced a wonderful product. My editor and other staff at Wheatmark have exhibited a professional manner in their willingness to work with me. It has been a great experience. Additional staff members have been instrumental in getting my online press kit up and running. My orders for additional copies of my book are handled in a timely manner and their quarterly royalty statements provide me with an accurate accounting of my sales. I am currently working with Wheatmark on my second book, a children’s picture book, entitled My Two Grandfathers: A Memoir.
J Douglas Bottorff, Colorado, author of The Whisper of Pialigos
I just received the author’s copies of my first novel, The Whisper of Pialigos, and I am extremely pleased with the quality of the final product. More than that, I couldn’t be happier with the service that Wheatmark provides. From submission to print, the company performed beautifully, flawlessly, and expediently, fulfilling everything they promise.... Anyone considering self-publication should do their homework on where the publishing industry is heading. You will find that Wheatmark, with all the included services they offer, is an excellent choice for birthing your writing dream. (Read the complete testimonial on our book publishing blog.)
Lester McCracken, Pennsylvania, author of When Jesus Said He Would Return
As having already self-published a book with another publisher, I would like to thank Wheatmark Publishing for their working with me to publish my second book. Previously, I had dealt with a larger publisher who specializes in publishing books with the subject that I delight in revealing to others. I had nothing but grief and delays with these people and lack of communication. During the process I was assigned four different author support persons, and each time I was transferred to another there were huge communications gaps resulting in further delays. There was also a division between their departments, to which my "author support" person never had a direct link.
I found just the opposite with the people at Wheatmark. I have found them friendly, willing to communicate, and when needed, I was able to communicate via phone directly with whom I needed. I also know that the costs I have paid to Wheatmark have been a much better value for my dollar. I also like their incentive to help promote a book after two thousand copies are sold. I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in self-publishing.
Don L. Nickerson, Arizona, author of The Healing of Teddy Bears
I don't think of Wheatmark solely as the publisher of my book of essays. I think of them as the persons I have worked with and come to enjoy and trust. Part of that, of course, is that I'm local, and knew from the beginning I wanted face to face meetings with the staff when I had questions. And did I ever have questions! The quality of my book speaks for itself in the resultant product of our mutual consultations. There may be some features of other publish-on-demand companies, such as more extensive paper options or lower cost, that will appeal to prospective authors, but when one looks at the ethical standards of Wheatmark, above all, and their insistence on "getting it right" and the satisfaction of the author, I think Wheatmark stands tall. So long as you realize you may not recover your costs as a self-publishing author, and that publicizing the book is largely up to you, no matter what firm you choose, I don't see how you can go wrong engaging the competent and personal staff of Wheatmark for your publishing needs.
Rev. Robert McLeod, Arizona, author of Everything You Know Is Wrong
I'm writing as a very satisfied author of a book published by Wheatmark. Every part of the process was a pleasant surprise. First of all, the overall expense was low. I was able to select what features I wanted and which ones I did not want, so I only paid for what was necessary. There was no hard sell at any time. Furthermore, my editor was both competent and responsive to my every wish. I can't tell you how many times I went back for changes and improvements, and each time the attention I received was exemplary and the fees reasonable.
The finished product is great. The cover art is very professional.... [The book] is available through all the major on-line sales outlets. It's really the best of both worlds. In this day of computers and the Internet, there's no reason to deal with the publishers of the past.
Chuck Benigno, Ph.D., Mississippi, author of Teaching: Excellence or Survival?
My experience with Wheatmark Publishing has been a true blessing. My editor and sales representative have been a pleasure to work with and have gone out of their way to help me both before and after publication. The final product was very professional and completed in a timely manner. Most importantly, there were no surprises.
Lisa Martens, New York, author of Wave of Catharsis
As a teenager, I ran into a lot of roadblocks when it came to publishing. I had no contacts, no experience, and no idea what to do next. My attempts at query letters were always met with rejection. Thanks to Wheatmark, my book is in print, I retained all the rights to it, and my college is even using it for an English 2 course this semester! None of this would've happened if Wheatmark hadn't been recommended to me.
Ann Lain, Texas, author of Crested Butte Dreams
Compared to other publishers, I found Wheatmark offers authors the most options for turning manuscripts into highly marketable products. Assigned book editors guide their writers through the publishing process, explaining the various options. At no point does the book editor ever pressure the author to select more than the basic publishing level. However, I’ll share my experience with the option of copyediting. After reviewing a sample of several copyedited pages of my book, I decided to go this route. It was by far the most worthwhile money I could have spent. A highly trained copyeditor looked at far more than grammatical elements and sentence structure. This individual examined the content closely in terms of consistency, logic, story line, and character development, discovering any weaknesses in style and presenting several pages of recommendations. As a former English teacher, I was astounded at the revisions I had ahead of me, but I went to work and found that a much stronger manuscript emerged. At this critical point, my book editor sent an electronic version of the final revisions for me to review. She tried to warn me that overworked authors tend to miss careless errors and that for a third of the original cost, my copyeditor could make certain I had a polished manuscript. My advice, especially to first time authors, is to listen to the wise counsel of your book editor. But I plunged ahead, thinking I would find any typographical errors or other careless mistakes. I signed off on my approval form and my book went to press with a number of overlooked errors. Consequently, for a reasonable fee, I ended up correcting my errors and having my book reprinted. That is the beauty of “print on demand.” At least, I had that option. And that is what Wheatmark publishing is all about--options.
Dr. Clyde W. Ekbom, Iowa, author of Life Crafting: Create the Life You Were Meant to Live
I was a bit nervous, at first, about choosing a publishing company for my book. I took great care in searching out what I thought was the best overall setup and deal. With Wheatmark, I was not disappointed. They did what their advertisement said they would do, and more. I would recommend Wheatmark to anyone who wants to see their stuff in print.
Doris Steffy, Arizona, author of Mrs. Steffy: Our Mother, the Mortician
As a first-time author, my experience with Wheatmark has been exceptional. My first meeting with [the publishing consultants] was most interesting in that they were interested, enthusiastic, and immediately showed how the book would be set up, gave me a choice of size, print, and asked about pictures. They were courteous and encouraging.... This company has an excellent, knowledgeable staff and I immediately felt like one of the Wheatmark family. The claims they made about cover selection, date of publication, and availability were all true to their promises. I continue to have excellent communication with the staff of this company and highly endorse their ability to produce an attractive publication with a minimum of expense and hassle.
Mano and Carolyn Sotelo, Arizona, authors of The Collective Truth, Volume 1 and Becoming Beautiful, a Guidebook to Finding Your Spiritual Self
It was a pleasure to work with Wheatmark. They were very thorough about the entire process. Specifically, we really appreciated the great job they did with the editing and layout of the books. Also, their communication with us, from start to finish, was excellent. We could not be happier with the quality of the end products. Thank you to the Wheatmark staff, we would be happy to be a reference for you.
Hughlet Morris, Ph.D., Arizona, author of Missouri Chooses
My experience as an author publishing with Wheatmark has been entirely satisfactory and satisfying. Certainly the financial arrangements are in favor of the author. More than that, perhaps, is the opportunity to deal with a firm of capable, competent, cordial professionals who offer their expertise generously during the process.
Sharon Lee Willing, Arizona, author of No One to Cry To: A Long, Hard Ride into the Sunset with Foy Willing
After too many months of sweating over query letters and considering papering my bathroom with rejection letters, some of which were simply a scribbled "no" on my query, I discovered Wheatmark Publishing through my writers' organization, the Society of Southwestern Authors. What a blessing and relief! My first telephone call to them was met with professionalism and a friendly interest in me and my product. I requested--and immediately received--a sample book from their warehouse. The quality was impressive and I made an appointment to speak with them personally. I'm fortunate to live in close proximity and my visit with a consultant convinced me that these were the people I wanted to entrust with my "baby." Working with my book editor was a joy, from my beginning manuscript to the final book-in-hand (and she never lost patience with all my rewrites!). In all my dealings with Wheatmark, I've been given such individual attention that I've come away with the feeling that I am their only customer, although I know I'm one of many, many authors they represent from all over the country. I will definitely consult with them on my next book project!
Evelyne Tannehill, Nevada, author of Abandoned and Forgotten
My experience with Wheatmark was even better than expected. The product is exemplary and working with the people at Wheatmark has been a delight. I have had the opportunity to meet in person with my editor and all the staff at Wheatmark and they are always professional and helpful. I recommend them highly.
Richard F. Venti, Massachusetts, author of The Doctor's Dog
Since I had never self-published before, I initially had my reservations. In retrospect, however, I must say that I have no regrets whatsoever. My Wheatmark representative was at all times prompt, courteous, patient, and efficient. She solicited my input at every step of the way, never attempted to coerce me into doing anything I didn't want to do, and patiently answered my many questions, explaining WHY she thought something would look better one way as opposed to another. Her cover design was especially outstanding. And the end result? Six weeks after the release date, The Doctor's Dog is in selected Barnes & Noble retail stores! Check it out!
Dr. R.G. (Jerry) Bailey, P.E., Texas, author of The Fall of the American Empire and The World Is Our Course
I wanted to get my work published in a timely manner so I chose Wheatmark. They provided me a cost-effective solution that was handled in a very efficient and professional manner. They got the work done with a personal touch and out to the market with a quality result. I have had two books published by Wheatmark, and I would return to them with my next project.
May Sinclair, California, author of Infamous Eve
Publishing is a business. It can be brutal to the unwary or those engaged in a fantasy about becoming the author of the next best seller book without recognizing the work that comes along with its publishing and marketing.
The personnel at Wheatmark are professional, knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. Be you a novice or have had several books published already, the services offered and delivered are superior to other companies of this type.
Edwina Ann Doyle, Kentucky, author of The Bless Mark
My experience with Wheatmark was one of 100% satisfaction. From the first phone call to the final product, the staff was pleasant, professional, and prompt. If I ever self-publish again, I wouldn't consider any other company.
Dr. Shirley Anne Cox, California, author of Through the Eyes of My Heart
Without reservation, I recommend the services of Wheatmark. I did some research before I selected a publisher, and found that Wheatmark offered the package I wanted at the price I could afford. It was wonderful to then discover that the people at Wheatmark are very professional and endlessly helpful. I asked many questions. They were always answered cheerfully and thoroughly. My Wheatmark editor worked quickly and was extremely accommodating to my preferences. I felt like a spoiled only child! I was never made to feel like the writing rookie I am. I love the quality and look of the finished product. My next book will definitely be sent to Wheatmark.
Erin Zweigart, Illinois, author of Identity Crisis
Prior to publishing my book, I researched several different publishing companies and none compared to the services Wheatmark provided. I am very happy with my decision to employ Wheatmark’s services. My editor worked closely with me and provided useful suggestions that brought about a polished finished product. I even had English teachers compliment the editing! Wheatmark also made ordering simple by making my book available on amazon.com, borders.com, and barnesandnoble.com, which in turn made it easier for me to schedule book signings at these bookstores. I highly recommended Wheatmark to anyone aspiring to be a published author.
Van Zabava, Texas, author of Greenhorn and the Elephant
Being a new author and writing my first book was a hair raising experience. I looked into many self-publishing companies and was very pleased when I settled with Wheatmark. The publishing process was smooth and the ending results were very satisfying. I worked closely with my editor and was very satisfied with the book layout, design, and construction. I am thrilled Wheatmark was my choice for a self-publishing company. My book came to life just as I had imagined and I encourage you to let Wheatmark make your dream come true, too.
Judy Carpenter, Georgia, author of Rescue Me
I haven't had a chance to tell you how pleased I am with the finished book. It's better than I could have expected! My family and friends that have
read the book are well pleased with the story and have been very helpful pointing out my type-o's. If I'm lucky enough to finish another book, I will certainly ask for your editorial expertise to help me send the book to the printer without any errors. Thank you again. You're the best!
Karen Palumbo, Texas, author of The Struggle, First Generation
Publishing with Wheatmark has been a very pleasant experience. The staff has always been very polite, informative, and extremely helpful. Every step of the way along this journey I was never left to linger in the darkness, but kept informed as to what would happen next. I can only hope that my future books will also be published with them. The delight at seeing how wonderfully my book has been presented will stay with me for a very long time.
Stephen L. Daige, North Carolina, author of The IRS: Myths and Realities
I found Wheatmark to be a very professional publishing company. My editor contacted me promptly and worked closely with me throughout the publishing process. My manuscript became a high quality published book in just a few weeks. Wheatmark has also helped market my book through their website and other online bookstores. I recommend Wheatmark to anyone looking for a hassle-free publishing service.
James S. Avery, Sr., New Jersey, author of Others Thought I Could Lead
I looked into a number of companies in deciding who would be the best one to publish my autobiography. Wheatmark was far and above all others in their field in their professionalism, in understanding your needs, and in their on-time commitment to giving you the best possible product. I give Wheatmark the highest rating!
Martin Steinbrugger, California, author of Where Have All the Prophets Gone?
Thank you so much! I received my copies today and it turned out great, the quality of the book is far better than the quality of my last book, done by my first publisher. Not to mention the whole process was more than twice as fast, you guys exceeded my expectations and past experience by far!
David Aaker, California, author of From Fargo to the World of Brands
I've been really pleased with working with Wheatmark. I have published 12 books, and because several had multiple editions, I had about 30 go through production, and I never had a better production experience. Best of all, the books are turning out to be well done. We had a problem with one batch, but it is resolved, and it looks like that won't be repeated. So, I am extremely pleased, and am definitely going to consider Wheatmark as an alternative in the future.
Marianne Dorman, Washington, author of Lancelot Andrewes
I received copies of my book today ... and I want to let you know I am thrilled. The cover is beautiful and all seems to be well. Thank you so much.
I look forward to next time!
Julie Wanner Rossetti, Hawaii, author of Diabetes Can Be Sweet ... Once You Bury It
It took me one year to find a publisher and it was worth the wait, since I found Wheatmark. I was very impressed with my publishing consultant. He is highly-intelligent, friendly, and helpful. My decision to go with Wheatmark was because of him. I was not only looking for perfection when it came to editing my manuscript, but how the book cover would turn out. My editor has exceeded as my book has turned out the way I envisioned it. After speaking with Sam G. Henrie, President and Founder of Wheatmark, I'm happy to say he is a man with impeccable character and integrity.
If you want to get off to a great start, go with Wheatmark!
Bruce Hawkins, Georgia, author of 131 Box
I just wanted to thank you and Wheatmark for a job well done. [The books] look excellent and I truly appreciate the time and effort of your staff to help make my dream of publishing a book and sharing my story actually come true. John McKee, California, author of 21 Ways Women in Management Shoot Themselves in the Foot
After a lot of research to figure out which publisher would be the best to work with ... I decided that Wheatmark Publishing was the best solution. They have a straightforward business approach and seem to care about the book as much as the business.... I am very happy with the outcome.
Maria A. Behm, California, author of On Maternal Ground: A Mother's Journey to Find Solace
Thank you Wheatmark! The book you helped me publish is wonderful. The cover--superb! It is exactly like I had hoped it would be.
The book has already helped many mothers and fathers coping with letting go of their children. My editor was fantastic in her abilities to see my needs even online. The book is fabulous and it is virtually "my life as a mother" in print, and seeing it was very humbling.... I just wanted to let you know I am thankful to Wheatmark and my editor for all that you have done for my book and for allowing me to share it with others. I have almost completed my second novel. I'll be calling you soon.
Steven Keslowitz, New York, author of The Simpsons and Society; which was picked up by Sourcebook, Inc.
Working with [Wheatmark] since 2003 has been a great experience. I have learned a lot about many aspects of the book trade. It has been great working directly with you and your staff on aspects of writing, designing, marketing, and selling The Simpsons and Society … I will continue to refer prospective authors to your company.
Doug Lalli, Illinois, author of Peter and Beth
I'm quite pleased with the look of my book. The binding is nice and tight, the quality of the printing is excellent, and everything looks very professional. I'd be happy to act as a reference for Wheatmark.

Thanks for being a source of critical information and help in my quest to be a better-known author.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you who helped me publish this book. [My editor] did an excellent job in editing my work. I look forward to working with you again soon. God bless and more power. Your overall service was so impressive! Thank you again.
Christa Hermann, Australia, author of Margrit's World War II
Out of all the strangers in the world, my guardian angel got me to pick you! You did a great job. My husband and I cried, when we [saw] my book. Thank you so very much.
Justin Oldham, Alaska, author of The Fisk Conspiracy
The Fisk Conspiracy is my first novel, and it won't be my last. Wheatmark has helped me go from obscurity to print. They worked with me before the book went to press, and they're still answering my questions and giving helpful advice. They've played a big role in helping me develop promotional materials, too. Publishing on Demand (POD) doesn't have to be hard when you work with Wheatmark.
James Thomson, Maryland, author of All Knowing, All Merciful
The folks at Wheatmark gave my book careful, hands on attention at every step of the process. They have been responsive, understanding and receptive both to my suggestions and to my needs as an author. I do not hesitate to enthusiastically recommend Wheatmark to any and all authors seeking publication—their service simply cannot be beat.
Bruce Goldberg, California, author of Protected by the Light

José N. Abbo, Panama, author of Divisando Wall Street desde el Sur de América
Perhaps the hardest part of writing a book is not putting the words from your brains into the word processor, but from the word processor into the publishing presses. It took me four years after writing the first draft of my book to find a company willing to let the outside world appreciate my work. Finally I stumbled into Wheatmark which not only surprised me with how fast it turned my dream into reality, but also with the professional work of its staff delivering a very high-quality-looking book, making me feel very proud of my hard work as a writer.
Sandra K. Wilcoxon, Illinois, co-author of Harvest Journal
The editorial staff at Wheatmark were great to work with, and they produced a wonderful design for my book. They also took care of placing the book with Amazon and the other online bookstores, which makes it much easier for me to market the book.
Iris Lee Underwood, Michigan, author of Encouraging Words for All Seasons
Thank you for your professional and personal care to every detail of the publishing process. From the moment of my first call to this, I have felt your concern for the success of my book. Your kindness and courtesy are rare in this industry where writers daily deal with rejection.
Alexander Nayberg, Pennsylvania, author of Musicological Pastice
It's been nothing short of frustration to read the numerous rejection letters from the big-name publishing houses knowing full well the manuscript was not even read. I simply got disgusted with the whole process and stopped all attempts. Then surfing the Web I literally blundered into Wheatmark. It's been the luckiest "stumbling-block" I've ever bumped into. My book received an attention I'd already lost any hope to encounter at any time. The work—from careful attention to composition of the whole to highly professional cover design—was simply excellent. Can I recommend it to the authors, frustrated by the contemporary publishing business? I surely do.
Mike Baller, son of Howard Baller, California, author of Botticelli's Model Reborn
Although we are both demon proofreaders by professional training, neither one of us could find as much as a single typo in an hour's reading, until we gave up and started to read for pleasure. My father thinks the production quality surpasses mere perfection. We are all so grateful to you for not only doing it fast but doing it more-than-right.... The family consensus is that you did a beautiful job on the cover.
Joel Sherzer, Ph.D., University of Texas, author of Kuna Ways of Speaking
My experience with Wheatmark was superb from start to finish. Publishing is a complex and delicate business and this is one I truly appreciated. The staff was considerate and efficient. All my concerns were handled well. The result is a truly exceptional and elegant book, one I am proud of. I recommend Wheatmark to any author.
Peter Bruce, New Zealand, author of Better Business for a Better World
As a first-time [author], I was wary about contacting publishers. It soon became apparent that generally publishers perceive themselves as the kings and the authors are the peasants. It has not been like that with Wheatmark. Although the bulk of our correspondence has been by email, the staff at Wheatmark ... have been supportive and have given great service. Their communication has been prompt and helpful. I got to feel comfortable that my book was in good hands. I am delighted with the final product.
Sheldon Sosna, North Carolina, author of How to Never Make a Mistake
Getting published is hard to do. First you must find an agent who loves your work unconditionally. Then the agent must shop your book around, endlessly, to find a publisher. I spent three years searching for an agent and was on the cusp of acceptance several times, but somehow, the stars were never in the right phase. Then I read about Wheatmark... and my book was in print in just two months! My editor was very helpful in pulling everything together, offering text suggestions, marketing advice, and encouragement. Even saving me from legal complications. Can't thank Wheatmark enough.
Michael Barnard, New Mexico, author of The Lord of Whispers
I can't imagine having a finer experience in publishing The Lord of Whispers. It has been invaluable for me to work closely with my editor through every phase of the production process. My editor was extremely responsive to my suggestions and ideas, most of which were included in the final design.
Nestor Sander, California, author of Ibn Saud: King by Conquest
As my editor at Wheatmark you were receptive to my every suggestion, answered my questions promptly and did a magnificent job in editing and formatting the text and figures, as well as in satisfying my exigencies with regard to the index. I saw no typographical errors in the finished work. It lives up to the vision of what I wanted. The map on the back cover turned out splendidly.... Thank you! Merçi mille fois! Danke schön! Muchisimas gracias! Grazie! Ishkuruk! Memnoun!
Deirdre Weaver, New Jersey, author of Loosely-Braided Fog
Working with the editors at Wheatmark has been the opposite of what I'd been told to expect of many publishing houses. Wheatmark offers—and delivers—the utmost in quality, a premier service and sensible, collaborative flexibility where it mattered most to me. They share the same passion, care and attention to detail for the business of successful, high-quality publishing that we as authors do for our written work. Wheatmark treats all authors, and our rights and needs, with dignity and consideration.... I'd extensively compared all the POD publishers, their catalogs of published titles, their physical book quality and web-sites' caliber, prior to going with Wheatmark, and I can say without question that there is not one negative thing I had to 'settle for' in publishing my book. Many fellow writers with other publishers are suffering with shipping delays, quality problems, poor editing, misleading or half-finished online display pages, and much more. Not so, here. It is a true joy working with Wheatmark.
Jochen Schlenker, Germany
I could not possibly be any more satisfied with the services rendered by Wheatmark. From the first moment my editor worked very close with me, and we went together through the layout and cover design process.... Just three weeks after I first contacted Wheatmark, the complete design was done and the electronic file ready to be sent to the printer, and after another five weeks I held the hard copies in my hands and the book was on Amazon.com ready to be ordered. I would like to sincerely thank Wheatmark and especially my book editor for exceeding my expectations and for going the extra mile for me and my book project!
Brian Alger, Ontario, Canada, author of The Experience Designer
[This] is my first book, and therefore this is my first time ever working with a publisher. [My editor] was absolutely superb at coaching me through the process—he was indeed an excellent mentor. Moreover, he was extremely patient as I had a number of issues with graphics that I did not fully understand until [he] calmly helped me through the correction process... I am also extremely thrilled at the wonderful book cover he has designed for me. I shared some general thoughts about what I had wanted and he made it appear! Again, thank you for this wonderful opportunity and to your superb organization at Wheatmark!
Kenneth Ring, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Connecticut
Working with Wheatmark was an undiluted pleasure from start to book. Everyone there was friendly, helpful, courteous and competent, and I was delighted with my book when it was finished—ahead of schedule too! All in all, it was a totally positive publishing experience, which is certainly unique in my life as an author.
Max Behrer, Australia, author of Personal Freedom and the Eight Laws of Success
I am very satisfied with the services by Wheatmark. My editor worked closely with me through my manuscript. I am also very happy with the layout and cover design. It took only a few weeks and I could hold a copy of the book in my hands and the book was on the Internet, ready to be ordered.
Elinor Boddie, Florida, author of SOW: Scholars of Word
It has been a wonderful experience. I will recommend Wheatmark to all the writers I meet. Your staff are all fabulous, and so nice over the phone…. May God bless you and all your staff.
Edward Gavurin, Ph.D., New Jersey, author of Scenes and Themes in Poetry
I am very pleased with your book publishing services. Everything promised was delivered efficiently, ahead of schedule, and in true professional style, exceeding all my expectations. The book has an attractive look, thanks to the skillful cover design and text formatting.
My editor … was unusually helpful and cooperative throughout all phases of the publishing process. She provided invaluable advice and suggestions, and excellent editing support. Thank you for making the publishing of my book a pleasant experience. Wheatmark is a truly professional enterprise.
Eric Swenson, Washington, author of Asking Life's Questions
I received the copies of [my book] today and I am very pleased with the appearance of them.… You have always provided prompt responses to my many inquiries and your given words were always supported by your actions. I am very satisfied with Wheatmark and that satisfaction is completely derived from the service you have provided. If ever a time comes when I have a need to publish more of my work, Wheatmark will certainly be the first publisher I contact.
John D. Henderson, Arizona, author of Ask Not, Receive Not
As a recent author whose book was published by Wheatmark, I can recommend their thoroughness, work ethic, and timeliness from beginning to end so that the process of publication was completed in an effective and efficient manner. The staff is great and I would recommend them to any author wishing to find a self-publisher with ease and security. And after your book is published they stay in contact with you to see how they might assist you more. Just nice people!
Vincent J. Daczynski, Arizona, author of For Sales' Sake Meditate!
To any new author who seeks to be self-published, I recommend Wheatmark. I found them to be competitively priced. They met their scheduled deadlines at every step of product development, were easy to work with, were responsive to my questions and needs, and worked well with me to develop artwork for the book cover. And, they provided a quality product.
Kenneth K. Blyth, Florida, author of Who Shot Down EQ-Queenie?
My first book was published by an independent publishing house. While they did an excellent job of presenting my publication, it was extremely expensive. I found out I had to provide all the sales effort myself. This publisher did provide some advertising but it was mostly done in conjuction with other books they had published. With this sequel to my first book I looked to Wheatmark for they were prepared to publish at a fraction of the cost of the first book. I had concern about the quality but this concern was soon alleviated. I am very pleased with all the services they have provided together with the fact I now receive a small royalty on a quarterly basis.
William H. Blazier, Arizona, author of The Cosmic Force
My experience with Wheatmark was very satisfactory. The typos and spelling errors were [corrected] without fanfare, and the help I received with the cover was excellent. [My editor] did a superb job handling everything, and I am forever grateful.
Dan Burke, Idaho, author of Driving into the Sun
A quick, easy, and professional way to bring your book to life. These guys are knowledgeable and good at what they do.
Brandon W. Ivie, California, author of Two Doors from Elsewhere
The book publishing services and willing professionalism that I experienced have served to surpass anything that I could have expected. The editor that I worked with really made me feel as if they were working for me and displayed great advice, suggestions and friendliness during every step of the publishing process. Everything from certain forms I needed delivered, important email questions, to my final books were delivered not only on time but in many cases, early! From beginning to end, working with Wheatmark has been an awesome experience and after seeing my book finished, they're the only ones I'll do business with now. They have shattered any and all hang-ups or reluctances that I ever had about publishing with a company and made sure everything about my book was just the way I intended because that is their goal as well.
Alain F. Corcos, Ph.D., Michigan, author of The Little Yellow Train
I was surprised to find that Wheatmark was so knowledgeable, not only in the printing business, but also in public relations. It was such a pleasure to work with them on the second edition of my book, The Little Yellow Train: Escape from Vichy France, that I decided to publish another book of French stories in English with them.
Ron Mullinax, Texas, author of Fritz von Erich
I would like to say that you guys have done a great job putting together a very nice cover and book. I am very pleased with everything and everyone I've worked with.
