Johnny Raye was born and raised on the beaches of southern California. At the age of nineteen he entered military service as a U.S. Army Military Police officer, where he served as a Cold Warrior in the Federal Republic of Germany.
He is a graduate of Northern Arizona University and holds degrees in History, Geology, and Criminal Justice. While at university, he worked as a reporter for his school newspaper and won awards for his editorial writing.
Johnny also attended the University of Tübingen, in Germany, where in his free time, he played as a defensive lineman for an American style football club, The Rottenburg Red Knights.
He has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and Central America, exploring the castle ruins along the German Rhein, walking the streets of the Forbidden City in Beijing, and exploring the great Mayan pyramids of the Cancun peninsula.
Unfortunately, in 2010, some bad choices resulted in Johnny being sent to prison. Rather than let that frequently violent environment poison his outlook, he chose instead to turn to a positive outlet…writing. It became his therapy and saved him from the horror that is prison life. After years of work, twelve different drafts, stacks of handwritten pages, and hundreds of emails, Creatures of Light was born.
Now, having returned to his mountain home, Johnny continues to write. But in his free time, he can be found riding his Harley on the back roads of Arizona, or playing his guitar and writing some “Whiskey soaked, gravel voiced, kick ass, Outlaw Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
